Gloucester BiG Knit

BiG-KnitGloucester BiG Knit is launching this Friday, 7th November.

We have a secret project planned and we want as many people as possible to get involved by knitting, crocheting or sewing.
Each week we will collect your creations and we’ll put something BiG together early in 2015 to show your work off to the whole City.
Every Friday from November 2014 to February 2015, at Gloucester Guildhall, between 12-2pm.
The BiG Knit is providing somewhere friendly and free for you to come and hang out.
We value everyone, so all ages, cultures and abilities are welcome, but if you are under 50 please try to bring an over 50 with you or try to get them involved in some way. We want to stop older people in Gloucester feeling isolated or lonely.

We’ll start more meet-ups as we grow and at each session there will be information about other get-togethers we’re holding and more great things that are going on across Gloucester.
We have some patterns to follow but we want people to show off their creative flair as part of the project. The more colourful the better! We plan to run an even bigger event next year, so we can’t guarantee you’ll get your knits back as we’ll be saving this year’s creations and recycling them in 2015/2016.

The “BiG” in BiG Knit stands for “Believe in Gloucester” and there is information on the Believe in Gloucester website along with knitting patterns and design ideas.
Gloucester’s  BiG Knit will also be supporting the Innocent Big Knit, which helps to raise money for Age UK by knitting hats for their smoothie bottles and donating money from each bottle sold.

If you’re joining us for a knit and natter, please try to bring your own knitting needles or crochet hooks with you. We have a limited amount of yarn and some needles to help you get started which have been kindly donated by Miju Wools, Hobbycraft and B&M Gloucester as well as generous friends, family & colleagues. If you’re able to donate any wool, needles or hooks we would be very grateful.

There are two collections bins at Gloucester Guildhall; one for donations of yarn and knitting supplies, and another for participants to drop of their completed creations.
If you would like to be involved but can’t make it to the Guildhall, please get in touch and we can bring the BiG Knit to you. If you’re already part of a knitting club or group of people who would like to join the BiG Knit, we’d love to have you on board.
There may be small pots of funding available if you are interested in starting up a group in your area, which could help cover room hire costs or help you buy equipment. All we ask is that you are willing to welcome older people from your area in to your group too.

If you would like more information please contact Emily Jones or Isobel Edwards on 01452 396396 quoting “the BiG Knit”.
